The XFL returned for its second season in 2020, 19 years after its debut. It featured eight clubs and had significant support from those teams’ fan bases.
Unfortunately, the company, like many others, was forced into bankruptcy as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since then, the owners of the XFL have been planning a major comeback for the 2023 season, and joining the metaverse is a big part of that.
Previously, XFL filed a trademark application for “XFL” on July 21 this year. At that time, it purported to offer NFTs, virtual goods such as metahumans and clothing, and virtual worlds and online metaverses.
Josh Gerben, a trademark attorney, announced the news on Twitter :

Sports and Web3
It’s clear that the sports industry is rapidly entering Web3. With more and more requests for NFT brands and metaverses, new virtual worlds can be expected to engage fans with their favorite athletes and players.
Last month Formula 1 delved into NFTs, cryptocurrencies and the metaverse with “F1” trademarks.
Recently, the PGA filed a new trademark registration with Web3 for its logo after revealing that it is completing partnerships with Sorare and Autograph to create golf NFTs.
