Dubai recently hosted Gitex Global 2022 from October 10-14, 2022. The event attracted web 3.0 and metaverse business entities from around the world. UAE government agencies also showcased advanced technological developments in the Web 3.0 space.
Ajman Police in the Metaverse
One of the examples of these remarkable Web3 innovations was presented by the Ajman Police Force. The Ajman police force introduced metaverse services for its citizens.
According to the official tweet, they are the first police agency to enter the metaverse. Ajman Police General Command launched the Sponsorship Request service at the Gitex Global Technology Week.

In this metaverse-driven smart service, citizens can communicate with the police force remotely. They do not have to physically go to the police station to file complaints or for any other issues.
In the metaverse introduced by Ajman Police, online avatars of police officers will respond to queries from the public. Seven officers from Al Nuaimaiah police station were trained to use the metaverse, VR goggles and headsets.
Major Noura Sultan Al Shamsi, head of the media relations team at Ajman police, said:
“This was a trial run, but having been successful, the officers will continue to meet with residents virtually, and also added, the meetings were aimed at exploring residents’ needs and answering their questions. So we thought we would facilitate this in a way that did not require people to be physically present. For now, metaverse services are only open to resolve queries. Other services will be coming soon.”
Lt. Col. Mohammed Abu Shehab, head of service development at Al Nuaimaiah police station, said, “Citizens’ opinions and feedback were crucial in developing such an advanced platform.”
The metaverse in 2022
The survey conducted by Ipsos for the World Economic Forum in May 2022 revealed that more than half of adults in 29 countries surveyed said they were familiar with the Metaverse.
This is a bit surprising, as 51% of registered users are 13 years old or younger, probably due to Roblox, which happens to be the largest virtual world within the Metaverse.
The number of users has also increased tremendously, with an estimated 1.07 billion users this year. This figure is expected to increase to 1.4 billion in 2023 and 1.73 billion in 2024.
Meanwhile, electronic games (250 million users) overtook global cryptocurrency (220 million) in terms of the main fields in which the metaverse is used.
Blockchain games (2.3 million), non-fungible tokens or NFT (412,578) and Web3 (50,000) round out the top five fields.
