Star Atlas Demo
This pre-alpha demo of Unreal Engine 5 technology allows Star Atlas NFT owners to explore a 3D environment, as well as take a look at the vehicles and ships they’ve invested in.
At the moment, access has been granted only to those who own NFTs. By purchasing a ship and joining a Star Atlas game faction, they can obtain an access key.
CEO and co-founder of Star Atlas developer ATMTA, Michael Wagner, shared that the demo includes a non-NFT ship to explore.
He further said, “We still have a long way to go. But the idea is to continually release these iterative features, so you’re constantly getting more engagement.”
In the future, this year only, there are plans to expand the showroom demo to include additional features, such as chat functionality, multiplayer capabilities and the ability for NFT owners to take their ships flying.
Foundation Software Development Kit
F-KIT, Foundation Software Development Kit, has also been released and refers to an open source SDK to allow Unreal Engine 5 developers to integrate Solana’s blockchain; thus, allowing users to sign transactions and fulfill all in-game actions.
Wagner shared that ATMTA is developing two completely different clients for Star Atlas. One is the Unreal Engine 5 version that will be released through the Epic Games Store and another is a simple web-themed WebGL version.
All of the game’s functionality will be available in both versions, although the Epic Games Store version will require a gaming-capable PC. Wagner believes that Star Atlas development will take five to six more years.
However, the release of the Showroom recommends the kind of incremental release schedule according to ATMTA.
The Showroom will have more features by the end of 2022 and by the end of 2023, there are plans to launch a vertical portion of the game.
