Thanks to his song “House I Built”, Death Row Records’ new owner Snoop Dogg has released the first virtual music video produced in the Sandbox Metaverse.
The Sandbox and Animoca labels announced the news on Thursday. Later this year, Snoop Dogg will conduct his debut concert at Metaverse, also at The Sandbox. His song “House I Built” appears on his latest album, BODR, which was released via Death Row Records in February.

Dogg appears as a voxel avatar in the image, which features Blondish alongside Steve Aoki and was created using VoxEdit and Game Maker, The Sandbox’s free user-generated content creation tools.
Death Row Records was founded by hip-hop artists The D.O.C., Dr. Dre, Suge Knight and Dick Griffey in 1991, and was home to some of the West Coast’s biggest rappers during the 1990s.
After acquiring the label, Snoop released his latest album and declared that Death Row Records will become an NFT label. He plans to play his first metaverse concert at The Sandbox later this year.
Snoop Dogg said in a statement:
“The track ‘House I Built’ draws a parallel between how I’ve built my life and career and how I’m building my virtual world of the Snoopverse on The Sandbox. Whether it’s in the Metaverse or in-universe, it’s about keeping it real, being yourself and making the most of every opportunity.”
Arthur Madrid, CEO and co-founder of The Sandbox, said in a statement:
“We are building a new entertainment platform where artists, talent of all kinds and brands can access a new generation of consumers who own and collect digital properties like LAND and digital memorable moments.”
“Today at The Sandbox, Snoop Dogg is building Snoopverse, a place where his avatar can perform exclusive concerts only accessible to his fans,” he added. “Snoop’s new Metaverse music video, the first of its kind, ‘House I Built,’ offers a tangible example today, but more to come very soon.”
The lyrics to the song ‘House I Built’ mention The Sandbox, sand tokens and reveal that Snoop’s token pool started with $300,000 and was worth $4.8 million when the lyrics were written.
The Sandbox has partnered with artists, agencies and record labels to create virtual concert venues. For example, Warner Music Group (WMG) has partnered with The Sandbox to create a music world in the metaverse with performances by the company’s artists, as well as agency Web3 Kollectiff’s meta-stadium, inspired by the UK’s Brixton Academy, where UK band The Wombats will perform.

Snoop Dogg to Perform at The Sandbox Concert, Joins Twitter Spaces with Charles Hoskinson
The rapper released a new music video on blockchain-based game The Sandbox, where he will also perform a virtual metaverse concert later this year, and also confirmed an upcoming Twitter Spaces meeting with Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson.
Meanwhile, the music video is something of an opening act released ahead of Snoop Dogg’s full virtual concert to be held at The Sandbox later this year.
‘That Cardano and this Web3 stuff’
At the same time, Snoop Dogg also confirmed today that he will be joining Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano blockchain and co-founder of Ethereum, on Twitter Spaces on April 5, and “this will be fun.”
In turn, Hoskinson also confirmed this, noting:
“Yes, I’ll be with Snoop on the 5th. I have the best job in the world.”
Apparently, at least part of the conversation will be dedicated to a new partnership between Snoop Dogg and Cardano-based platform Clay Nation that will bring them iconic collectibles, unreleased music and limited edition ‘releases’.
Previously, Clay Nation minted, and sold, a collection of original handmade Clay NFT’s that also serve as a gateway to the Clay Nation Festival and metaverse molding.
“It is a collection of 10,000 digital characters with handmade clay features assembled algorithmically. Each unique character is a one-of-a-kind NFT stored on the Cardano blockchain. Just as in the non-clay world, no two Clay Nation members are alike.”
More details of the new partnership will be revealed during the Twitter Spaces meetup with Snoop Dogg, Charles Hoskinson and cryptocurrency investor Champ Medici on April 5 at 6 p. m. UTC.
