RTFKT x Nike AR Genesis Hoodie will be released this week

Originally revealed in April, RTFKT and Nike’s AR Genesis hoodie will be released as a non-expendable garment this Thursday, July 21. It is the first “phygital” apparel item the two entities have collaborated on.

What is the hoodie about?

The hoodie will be a digital accessory for Clone X avatars in the metaverse and can be converted into a physical garment that can be worn in real life.

The hoodie comes with an NFC (near field communication) chip that enables wireless communication between the physical garment and the digital asset.

Private minting of the hoodie will go live this Thursday and Clone X and RTFKT x Nike Dunks Genesis CryptoKicks holders will be able to get initial access to a limited hoodie.

The hoodie comes with several utilities for holders, including the ability to add AR effects such as virtual wings via trackers and QR codes.

What is RTFKT all about?

Proving that they are more than just an advertising-fueled NFT streetwear studio, RTFKT plans to continue adding utilities for NFT holders over time, including access to tokenized in-person events.

Earlier this month, RTFKT distributed a limited-edition Takashi Murakami NFT to attendees of Takashi Murakami’s two-part exhibition – the artist behind CloneX – “An Arrow Through History” at New York’s Gagosian Gallery.

According to Vogue Business RTFKT released all 3D files and commercial rights to its CloneX avatars through a token site earlier this month. This means that CloneX holders can use CloneX images for advertising and commercial purposes, from media to physical retail.

Since its launch in November, CloneX has generated a total transaction volume of $650 million, according to RTFKT.

After being acquired by Nike last December, the two entities have launched a series of collaborations, starting with the RTFKT x Nike Dunks Genesis CryptoKicks NFT project.

Like the AR hoodie, CryptoKicks could be forged into physical sneakers.

This was followed by the mysterious ‘MNLTH’, RTFKT and Nike’s first co-branded project for which fans undertook collective virtual “quests” to unlock the black box.

The resale value of one MNLTH reached 9 ETH before its contents were revealed.

RTFKT co-founder Benoit Pagotto told Vogue Business that Nike’s acquisition of the company “was necessary Web3 to accelerate.”

“It sent a message to take this seriously, and we know for a fact that many big brands started picking up the phone the day it was announced,” Pagotto added.

“It puts us in a powerful position to help dictate the future of Web3,” RTFKT co-founder Steven Vasilev told Vogue Business. “A big part of the deal was to stand independently and guide Nike on Web3.”
