18th June, 2024 —Ronin, the world’s largest gaming blockchain by daily active users (DAU), announced the upcoming launch of Ronin zkEVM, a zero knowledge Layer 2 (L2) chain on Ronin built with a Sky-Mavis modified version of the open sourced Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK). By building a dedicated ZK blockchain, the Ronin network will be able to serve infinitely more users, supporting the rapid growth of its thriving game studio partners and further enhancing the permissionless environment to onboard more gaming experiences.
Additional plans include enshrining a Polygon ZK prover directly into Ronin to provide a turnkey solution for game studios to easily build their own zkEVM blockchains on Ronin without needing to establish their own security and consensus.
Initially built to scale and house its flagship IP, Axie Infinity, Ronin has evolved to support a broader gaming ecosystem and currently supports 1.4M daily active addresses. The network has successfully onboarded major titles, which have all benefited from Ronin’s large, highly active player base driving “The Ronin Effect”. Most noteworthy is Pixels, which surpassed 4.4 million users since migration in October 2023.
With the enhanced scalability provided by Ronin zkEVM, Ronin’s partner studios can continue to innovate and expand, leveraging Ronin’s infrastructure to reach even larger audiences.
