Polygon blockchain announces a partnership with cryptocurrency platform hi Technology and Mastercard. The companies are collaborating to offer users freedom of creation and expression.
Polygon and Mastercard
Polygon wallet holders can create custom Mastercard NFT debit cards that allow users to spend cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies at more than 90 million merchants worldwide.
To receive an exclusive card, Polygon customers must download the hi app, create an account and select a Silver or higher card level. They will then be able to personalize their cards with NFTs minted by Polygon.
Today, we're so proud to announce our collaboration with @PolygonStudios, allowing users to easily generate an NFT, using their favorite image, to customize a Debit Mastercard.
The best part? It’s a gasless minting experience.

Notably, the platform offers free minting to program participants, so users don’t even have to pay gas fees. Customers can generate NFTs by simply uploading images of their choice from their computer.
In addition to this exclusive benefit, hi and Mastercard members will receive Spend Rewards of up to 10%, travel benefits and discounts on up to twenty digital subscriptions.
“The Polygon team are true blockchain pioneers and we are excited to partner with them to explore new frontiers for Web3, particularly in the banking and payments space,” said hi co-founder Sean Rach.
Mastercard and Web3
Mastercard and hi had already partnered in September of this year. The companies then launched the world’s first customizable NFT debit cards.
However, customers could only use NFTs from premium collections such as Bored Ape Yacht Club and CryptoPunks.
In January, Mastercard partnered with Coinbase to allow users to pay for NFTs with Mastercard credit/debit cards.
A few months later, Mastercard filed 15 trademark applications to offer financial services in the metaverse.
In June, it announced a cross-platform partnership with Candy Digital, Mintable, Spring, Immutable X, The Sandbox, Mintable, Spring, Nifty Gateway and MoonPay to enable NFT trading on Web3 platforms.
In July, it joined forces with TIME US and Salesforce in Miami to launch NFT later this year.
And recently, Mastercard filed a trademark application to provide cryptocurrency-related security services.
