Nvidia announced the launch of its Omniverse Cloud service in 100 countries. The graphics processing unit (GPU) maker wants to accelerate global adoption of the metaverse.

Nvidia Cloud Omniverse

Nvidia Cloud Omniverse is a software and infrastructure-as-a-service product built for artist developers and enterprise teams to design, publish, operate and experience metaverse applications anywhere.

The platform leverages the power of high-performance data centers to deliver Omniverse tools to users around the world. According to Nvidia, Omniverse already has a user base of more than 700 companies and more than 200,000 individuals.

The platform enables teams around the world to design and collaborate on 3D workflows regardless of local computing power.

Commenting on the global launch of the service, Richard Kerris, vice president of Omniverse at Nvidia, highlighted the important role Omniverse will play in accelerating the adoption of the metaverse, a 3D virtual space that allows users to interact immersively through games, work projects and virtual concerts, among other experiences.

“Now, to understand what the impact of this is going to be, the traditional Internet as we know it today connects websites described in HTML and viewed through a browser. The metaverse is going to be the evolution of that Internet connecting 3D virtual worlds using USD, or universal scene description,” Kerris said.

In January, Nvidia made Omniverse free for individual users. The platform has also been instrumental in several industrial metaverse projects, including a partnership with German automation company Siemens to accelerate the process of creating an automated industrial metaverse.

In early September, the company also collaborated with the University of Houston, AI innovation Consortium and TechnipFMC to “advance the creation of industrial metaverse applications as part of the educational institution’s oilfield digital lab initiative.”

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, commented, “The metaverse, the 3D Internet, connects 3D virtual worlds described in USD and viewed through a simulation engine. With Omniverse in the cloud, we can connect teams around the world to design, build and operate virtual worlds and digital twins.”

The metaverse has become one of the most exciting investment opportunities for technology companies, and Nvidia is certainly not far behind.

Nvidia wants to capitalize on the rapid adoption of the metaverse, with McKinsey predicting that the metaverse market could be worth $5 trillion by 2030.
