Decentraland recently announced on its website that it will hold the first marathon within the metaverse, which will have a more inclusive representation. The title of this event will be Degree Metathon.
The event is organized by Decentraland and Degree, a partnership that enables the first mass sporting activity within the metaverse, which will offer greater virtual mobility between different users.
This marathon will start on Tuesday, April 26th at 10pm (UTC) and will conclude on Wednesday at the same opening time at the Genesis Plaza (existing location in the Decentraland metaverse).
Decentraland aims at inclusion
Since its inception, Decentraland has been committed to inclusion in its events and activities within the metaverse, and this is another opportunity to achieve it.
This event has two tags #NotDoneYet and #BreakingLimits, which define the event as unprecedented and inclusive.
The main ideal is that we are all free to move, even within the metaverse. In this case, Degree has designed an adaptive device for wheelchairs to move within the virtual universe.
The device has been designed and developed so that people with limited mobility can enjoy the metaverse experience to the fullest in a natural way and without inconveniences.
The Decentraland marathon will be attended by several Paralympic sports personalities, such as medalist Blake Leaper, snowboarder Amy Purdy and soccer player Héctor Herrera.
During the course of the race, several unique stories will be presented, in which the protagonists have overcome personal diversities in the real world and seek to motivate the participants of this event.
