Meta Hollywood, a virtual community for movie lovers, studios and creators, today announced a partnership with The Sandbox, to develop a Hollywood-themed virtual movie studio in the metaverse.

The virtual community has been launched by Animoca Brands in partnership with Planet Hollywood Group, while The Sandbox is a subsidiary of Animoca Brands.

It is a community-first ecosystem for entertainment fans and creators, offering exclusive online and real-life access and utility at the intersection of Hollywood and the Web3.

Meta Hollywood has secured a sizable plot in The Sandbox as part of its expansion into the metaverse.

In this partnership, Meta Hollywood will host Hollywood-themed events and experiences in a Hollywood backlot studio format.

Meta Hollywood guests will experience adventures touring various themed backlot experiences including horror and action sets, holiday-themed environments, red carpet premiere events and a memorabilia museum.

“I am very excited about our partnership with The Sandbox, which allows us to offer our community members and users an exclusive, one-of-a-kind Hollywood backlot experience where they can interact and own assets in a dynamic virtual environment made possible by Web3 technology,” said Meta Hollywood co-founder Robert Earl.

Visitors will also be able to purchase Hollywood-themed memorabilia and other voxelized assets based on Planet Hollywood’s collection of real movie memorabilia in the newly created virtual world.

Holders of these items will be able to unlock perks and the Meta Hollywood terrain will be further developed.

Meta Hollywood has access to a vast collection of more than 60,000 movie memorabilia, as well as Hollywood intellectual property and utility from Planet Hollywood and the Animoca Brands partner network.

“Meta Hollywood offers cult film fans the chance to virtually own a piece of Hollywood history and expand it creatively through new stories and adventures in an open metaverse,” said Sebastien Borget, COO and co-founder of The Sandbox. “It’s a great way to relive these legendary films that live in our imaginations and collectively relive the experiences.”

In addition to Meta Hollywood, Lionsgate has also recently partnered with The Sandbox to host movie-themed metaverse experiences and entertainment for movie fans.
