“Meet Will” Metaverse Experience sparks Debate on very Real Issue in Society

Entourage, in partnership with RLTY, becomes the first association to collect donations for the homeless in the metaverse

A year ago, the metaverse welcomed its first homeless person, Will, to raise awareness about the isolation of the most vulnerable and encourage everyone to reconnect with them. Because it is important to be surrounded by people in the virtual world as well as in the real world, Will will blow out his candles on April 12, during the first fundraising event of a French association, Entourage, in the metaverse. Happy birthday, Will!

While the virtual world is constantly developing and becoming more and more integrated into our daily lives, in real life, precariousness and isolation continue to grow. Last year there were 300,000 homeless people, this year there are 330,000. In France, precariousness is a reality and the number of homeless people is increasing.

Already $120 billion have been invested in the metaverse. This virtual and immersive world, considered the future version of the Internet, is slowly creeping into our lives. Web3 continues to develop and Entourage aims to make it an ally of the good cause. In an increasingly disconnected world, virtual isolation is not inevitable.

For this reason, Will invites you to make a donation, in euros or cryptocurrency, so that Entourage can help isolated people, recreating ties and mutual aid where there are few or none. With this unprecedented operation, the Entourage network and its 152,000 committed citizens aim to inoculate generosity in the metaverse.

Alongside Will, participants in the “Meet Will, Help Entourage” event will be invited to meet these invisible people: exchanges with the association’s speakers and street committee members who have been or remain homeless.

The event starts at 18:30 CET in the central arena for everyone to get in touch and meet Will, who will welcome the participants and introduce the event. Jean-Marc Potdevin, president and founder of Entourage, will speak and introduce the event along with Will. There will also be an awareness workshop “The Road and You: The Quiz” and Q&A with Entourage’s Clémence Dromer and Eric Devillers, member of the association’s street committee and discoverer of the Entourage members’ portrait gallery; sales from the I’M WILL NFT clothing collection will also be donated to the association. The event will be streamed live on RLTY, the association’s partner platform entirely dedicated to hosting events in the metaverse.

Entourage wants to offer excluded people a community that supports them and helps them to look forward. Their names are Elina, Eric, Ange, or Ahmed. Some of them have been on the street, all of them have experienced economic insecurity and relational isolation, but with Entourage they have met new people above all, as have 55% of the men and women accompanied by the association. These encounters have changed their lives: 72% have declared wanting to do new things and 47% have even proactively resumed their integration efforts.

By reconnecting the virtual world with the reality of the most vulnerable, the Entourage network relies on technology to recreate social ties and solidarity in real life. Transmitting generosity in the metaverse is the goal of this unprecedented donation initiative.

Meet Will

In March 2022, the Entourage network and its agency TBWA/Paris hit the mark by sending Will, a homeless man in the metaverse, a world first. A true spokesperson for the most excluded, Will questions the horizon of a society of virtual social ties and invites each of us to take care of the most precarious in real life.
