LG Electronics (LG) today announced the preview of its LG Art Lab platform with new artwork, including NFTs and a 24-karat gold-plated sculpture by Brooklyn-based sculptor Barry X Ball.
Unveiled February 16 at Frieze Los Angeles 2023, these works are inspired by sculptures of Pope John Paul II that the artist has in the works, continuing his foray into re-evaluating classical and modern sculpture.
The new NFT series, available through LG’s webOS Smart TV platform, will be showcased at Frieze LA on LG’s large-format OLED TVs, including the impressive 97-inch, 83-inch, and 77-inch LG OLED G2 and C2 models, as well as LG’s exclusive OLED Easel and Pose Lifestyle displays for a highly immersive viewing experience.
“As a leading company within the era industry, it is a privilege to collaborate with LG. My purpose from the beginning of the assignment was to establish a new fashion for the visual arts,” comments Barry X Ball. “These NFTs could not be feasible without LG’s OLED technology, which allowed me to create an immersive enjoy for painting fans, with deep blacks and hard elements.”
Ball’s new 39-second kinetic NFTs augment his sculptural practice in the digital realm, using LG’s OLED TV to create works with the production levels of a Hollywood film.
The four variants in this series are based on four metals – black steel, gold, copper, and silver – and immerse the viewer in hyper-baroque and complex forms, accompanied by an original soundtrack.
Each of the digital sculptures is transformed from a raw metal base into their respective hues with exceptional detail and color accuracy, demonstrating how the more than 8 million self-illuminated pixels of LG’s OLED TV can achieve deep blacks for crisp contrast, so that subtle details can be seen that allow the metals to shimmer and shine like never before.
This new 4 NFT series is based on the Hedera network, the most widely used, sustainable, enterprise-grade ledger for the decentralized economy.
Both Barry X Ball and LG have a deep commitment to technology and its innovative nature for new creative initiatives and kicked off their collaboration at Frieze Seoul 2022 with a special presentation.
LG Art Lab periodically organizes NFT deliveries on its website, using a countdown function that reminds users when they are due.

LG and the Web3
LG introduced its LG Art Lab platform last September, capitalizing on the NFT trend and seeking to enable users to display NFTs on their TVs and turn their living rooms into galleries.
LG has continued to engage in several Web3-related initiatives since the launch of its NFT platform; in October it partnered with Fr0ntierX, a Web3 service provider, to bring interactive NFT integrations to LG webOS Smart Signage, and last month it added Hedera-based Blade Wallet to its NFT platform and focused on copyright.
