It is not the first company to offer users the ability to design virtual homes and communities in the metaverse.
However, it is the first homebuilder to launch this type of experience, further tied to its real business.
KB Home’s metaverse platform includes a welcome pavilion and three architecturally distinct model homes that encourage users to explore and interact with them.
There is also a virtual host ready to welcome and educate visitors about the benefits of building a KB Home in the physical world. The metaverse home community also features technologies that allow visitors to customize virtual homes according to exterior styles (contemporary, Spanish, cottage, and Craftsman architecture) and interiors with different types of flooring, cabinets, countertops, faucets, tile, and lighting.
Jeffrey Mezger, CEO of KB Home, commented, “KB Home has a long history of pioneering innovation. We are creating forward-looking opportunities for the next generation of shoppers to experience a new KB Home community.”
“We know that consumers are increasingly immersed and spending more time in virtual worlds. The KB Home metaverse community revolves around creation and discovery, which provides an engaging environment for homebuyers to explore what truly sets us apart: innovative design, collaboration, and personalization.”
“By creating the first home community in the metaverse and a technology that allows consumers to customize virtual homes, we have developed an immersive experience that characterizes KB Home in the home building industry and reinforces its commitment to digital leadership and innovation,” said Lorne Sugarman, CEO of Metaverse Group.
KB Home’s Decentraland community was designed by Metaverse Group, a subsidiary of Tokens.com.
Other Homebuilder companies have joined the Metaverse
In October 2022, Hometopia partnered with virtual real estate and metaverse company EveryRealm to launch a home design metaverse on Roblox.
Hometopia allows users to build their communities and homes and communities in virtual worlds.
In addition, The Home Depot filed 24 trademark applications, showing its intention to launch a virtual home improvement service in the metaverse.
