With an extensive history in the gamer market and a career that ranges from professional eSports player to entrepreneur in the sector, the 23-year-old executive won the SCCG Global Award, which is one of the biggest references for iGaming consultancy and agency in the world
São Paulo, August, 2023 – Enthusiast of the gaming market, João Sobreira, only 23 years old and current CEO and founder of the Tipspace multigame platform, promotes the games industry in Brazil from an early age. His passion for games that ended up becoming a profession was once again recognized and he is the only Brazilian to receive the “Gambling industry’s 20 in their 20’s powered by CCG” award, a very significant achievement in the glambing market. The SCCG brand is one of the biggest iGaming consultancy and agency references in the world and was founded by Stephen Crystal, known for having a predominant role in the regulation of this market.
João’s nomination relied on the involvement and criteria of Lucas Mondelo, Director of SCCG Management in Brazil, a strong executive in the global gaming market. Lucas says that when he was invited to join the board that nominated the candidates, the SCCG had already evaluated numerous names, including those from Brazil. The award celebrates professional trajectories that are already successful and, in a way, long, despite the fact that the executives are under 30 years old.
“When I found out that João is only 23 years old, I was extremely surprised, I thought he was my age (32), because his experience and market dominance are really surprising”, says the executive. “When our headquarters asked for indications of Brazilians with these characteristics, I had no doubt: João’s trajectory is intertwined with the consolidation of the E sports market as a competitive industry in Brazil”, he adds.
The representative of SCCG in Brazil also states that in the last 10 years the industry has stopped just importing and playing foreign titles in Brazil, and has started to experience a boom in the formation of teams of electronic sports athletes, as well as the creation of the first serious competitions in the molds of what already happened in countries like South Korea for a long time. In his view, all these steps have João’s stamp on Brazil, “and Tipspace connected this great professional to the world of betting, where we met”.
The executive who runs Tipspace, the fastest growing games startup in Latin America and which already has more than 100,000 users and two million games played in just one year of existence, adds a series of experiences and achievements in the market: he undertakes since when he was 15, and since then, he has already sold two companies, the first when he was 16. Sobreira carries with him a successful history in the e-Sports universe with participation in the creation and development of some of the main brands in the gamer segment in Latin America and career agency of important influencers, such as Prêmio eSports Brasil, Flamengo eSports and Final Level , as well as renowned names like Fallen, Yoda and Playhard.
João and the other SCCG Award winners will be announced at an exclusive event during G2E 2023, which takes place from October 9th to 12th, in Las Vegas. Check out the full list of list highlights
“Being chosen by the SCCG and still being able to represent Brazil is a great honor, I am really happy. I want to be an inspiration for young entrepreneurs and at the same time promote the games industry, placing the country on a high level of world reference. I believe that this Award reinforces my purpose even more”, says João.
“I am happy to see that my colleagues in the US agreed with my point of view, resulting in João as the only Brazilian in the select list of the Top 20 in Their 20s award. Our founder, Stephen Crystal, values the solid steps of great professionals during the first stages of their trajectories, and this stems, among other things, from the fact that Stephen was a State Representative for New Hampshire when he was in that age range, less than 30 years old”, concludes Lucas Mondelo, Director of SCCG Management in Brazil.
How the selection works
The selection process for SCCG’s “Top 20 Executives in the iGaming Industry” list is by nomination. SCCG reviews all nominations from academics, VCs, veterans and industry experts, identifies the most promising candidates and submits them to a panel of senior judges to determine the best candidates. From there, scores and feedback are tabled until the short list of qualified candidates is produced. Finally, the SCCG panel interviews each qualified candidate in order to determine the official winners. There are several categories they can compete in: Sports betting (platforms, content, technology), Data solutions (CRM, data consulting, software), iGaming (Gaming Studios, Developers, Solutions), Esports (platforms, software, content, affiliates ), Marketing (Media Platforms, Branding, User Acquisition and Retention, Affiliate Marketing), Fantasy Sports (Platforms, Affiliates, Influencers, Content) and Legal (Regulation, Contractual Services, Lawyers).
