Fox teams up with Rick and Morty Co-Creator to launch Krapopolis NFT Animated Series

It has been announced that Fox is collaborating with Rick & Morty creator Dan Harmon to create a new NFT animated series titled ‘Krapopolis’, which is an animated comedy series.

In addition, Fox is announcing its NFT company to “help art meet technology.” The show will break new technological ground in its distribution and marketing.

Krapopolis is being created as an animated comedy series, similar to Harmon’s famed Rick & Morty, however, this one will be set in ancient Greece and “is centered on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters who attempt to run one of the world’s first series without killing each other.”

It is slated to be the first animated series curated entirely on the blockchain. It is Fox’s first move into the NFT ecosystem of any kind. Fox has also said it will be debuting a new NFT venture called ‘Blockchain Creative Labs’.

The voice cast is as follows: Duncan Trussell, Pam Murphy, Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry.

Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier told advertisers during a company presentation:

“As an advertiser-focused company that prioritizes artists and is obsessed with animation, Fox is going to bring advertisers into the world of blockchain-powered tokens, including NFTs, and Dan’s series, currently titled Krapopolis, will be the first ever curated entirely on blockchain. And just as we are doing this for our own animation, we will also help your brands connect directly with fans and enthusiasts through NFTs. With and for you, Fox will help art meet brands and technology.”

A dedicated marketplace will be created for the “Krapopolis” series, selling digital products such as NFTs and experience-based tokens.

Dan Harmon

Dan Harmon is an American writer, producer and actor. Some of his best-known works include “Ricky & Morty,” which he co-created, and “Community,” which he created and produced. He has been active since 1996 working on various projects.

In addition to his most famous work, Harmon also co-founded the alternative television network and website Channel 101. They have a monthly non-profit short film festival in Los Angeles. Participants submit a short film in pilot format under five minutes in length.

The event is structured so that a panel of previously successful participants chooses which pilots are screened, and a live audience at The Downtown Independent decides which pilots continue as a series for the next screening. Krapopolis is his next project in the works.

Rick & Morty’s other co-creator, Justin Roiland, posted some doodle NFTs on Nifty Gateway last year. These NFTs were titled “The Best I Could Do.” They included a Rick & Morty doodle, as well as other random doodles. Auctioned for $290,000 was ‘The Smintons’, a 1/1. ‘It’s Basically Tree Guy’ fetched the least, with the edition of 100 selling for $10 each in primary sales, and the last sale of that one being $500. This collection was followed by an auction at Sotheby’s.

Krapopolis will be produced by Fox-owned Bento Box Entertainment, however, the series has no reference to cryptocurrencies, as it is set in ancient Greece and focuses on a “flawed family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.”

NFT, cryptography and entertainment

Fox’s new show is the first animated series created using blockchain technology. It is also the first show to create NFT content based on a TV series for viewers to engage with. However, the entertainment space is bursting with new NFT and technology support.

Recently, Kevin O’Leary, host of the investment TV show “Shark Tank,” praised the future of NFTs saying, “It’s going to be phenomenal.”
