Potato chip maker Doritos is coming to Polygon and launching a metaverse experience on Decentraland.

Doritos Triangle Metaverse Studio

The company said Doritos Triangle Metaverse Studio welcomes both native cryptocurrency and non-cryptocurrency users. The event launched on Feb. 8 and will run through Feb. 10.

The experience allows users to create their NFT avatar, and then use it in the game. Players can change their skin color, hairstyle, clothes, and shoes, as well as try out different accessories.

After typing their name into their 3D avatars, players begin the experience by exploring the triangular tower on the second floor.

Depending on how many game points they score, players will have a chance to win one of two NFT avatars, which include a mix of RTFKT’s Clone-X #12118 with Takashi Murakami and Larva Labs’ Meebits #24.

The company will also give away 8 wearables, four unlocked and four locked, as well as two custom gaming platforms from BRParadox, which will be minted on the Polygon blockchain.

Acknowledging Doritos as the latest member of his company’s fast-growing ecosystem, Polygon co-founder and CEO Sandeep Nailwal tweeted:

Like most brands looking to build relationships with their customers on web3, Doritos will allow fans to have their NFTs for free.

Polygon is a favorite option for many companies

Polygon has become the preferred choice for major companies looking to expand customer relationships on the blockchain.

Its blockchain offers infinite scalability by leveraging zero-knowledge proofs to process transactions quickly and at the lowest possible cost. All are backed by the robust security features offered by the Ethereum network.

Last month, Fractal, Justin Khan’s NFT gaming marketplace, launched on Polygon joining a flurry of web3 companies. In December, the NFT y00ts project was migrated from Solana to Polygon.

On January 6, 2023, global payments giant Mastercard launched a web3 incubation program for artists on the Layer 2 blockchain, and JennyCo also chose the platform to power its healthcare data-sharing app.

All of this activity has helped Polygon become the leading blockchain for major brands, and the platform surpassed Ethereum in the number of NFT sales in January.

According to data from Dune Analytics, more than 1.3 million Polygon NFTs were sold on OpenSea, the leading NFT marketplace, in December 2022.

Doritos thus joins brands such as Reddit, Starbucks, and Cymbiotika that have joined the Layer 2 Ethereum scaling protocol to launch NFT products.
