To commemorate Disney’s 100th anniversary next year, fans can also tap into Disney100: The Wonder of Disney Music, a musical timeline that takes listeners through Disney fan favorites throughout the century, including the 1928 debut of Mickey and Minnie Mouse in Steamboat Willie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937, Fantasia in 1940, Moana in 2016 and more.
Ken Bunt, president of Disney Music Group, in a statement said:
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Obsess to launch an exciting new shopping experience for our Disney Music Emporium store. As we prepare to celebrate 100 years of Disney, this is the perfect way to create discovery and fun for our guests.”
While many brands and corporations have called their recently launched virtual experiences metaverse, Disney has avoided using the word to describe theirs.
Beyond mere virtual existence, the metaverse contains its own blockchain-based digital economy, where people can transact and socialize.
In September, Disney CEO Bob Chapek declined to enter the metaverse conversation, referring to the company’s foray into the sector as the next generation of storytelling.
That same month, Disney was looking for a corporate lawyer to work on transactions related to emerging technologies such as NFTs, blockchain, the metaverse and decentralized finance.
Disney’s Web3-focused accelerator to build the future of immersive experiences is targeting projects related to technologies such as augmented reality (AR), non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and artificial intelligence (AI) characters.
The company has selected Web3 platforms Polygon, Flickplay, Lockerverse, Inworld, Obsess and others.
