The virtual reality goggles will allow users to smell anything from a bed of roses to a roasted marshmallow prepared at a campground.
“We are entering an era where virtual reality will drive commerce, entertainment, education, social connection and wellness,” said OVR Technology CEO Aaron Wisniewski.
He indicated that the value of these types of experiences will be measured by the public by how immersive and engaging they are.
OVR Technology reported that the purpose of the headset is to help users relax and use the product. It also contains a kind of digital spa linked to the Instagram social network.
According to experts, this type of virtual reality technology is still in its early stages of development and is too expensive for most consumers to access.
The research firm NPD Group, pointed out that sales of Virtual Reality (VR) headsets decreased by 2% in 2023.
Glasses to detect taste and touch were unveiled at CES 2023
OVR Technology presented its virtual reality glasses for detecting taste and touch at the world’s largest technology fair, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2023), from January 5 to 8, 2023.
This event, held in Las Vegas, United States, was attended by more than 3,200 exhibitors who presented their projects in the areas of the metaverse, Web3 and digital health, among others, reported El País.
A recent report by the consulting firm McKinsey & Company forecasts that this metaverse sector could generate US$5 trillion over the next seven years (2030).
However, the study points out that the success of the metaverse needs a more developed human aspect that offers positive experiences to its users.
One such catalyst could be the integration of the sense of smell and touch into the virtual reality experiences presented at the recent CES 2023.
