Ancient8 and Shrapnel
Ancient8 is a web3 gaming product launch and marketing platform that builds a community infrastructure for the global adoption of blockchain gaming.
The company is backed by some of the web3’s leading venture capital firms, including Pantera, Dragonfly, Hashed, Makers Fund, C² Ventures, Mechanism, Coinbase, IOSG and Animoca Brands.
Ancient8 is the largest web3 gaming guild in Vietnam, giving it access to one of the fastest growing blockchain gaming communities in asia.
Web3 is a blockchain-based Internet that favors decentralization, trustless communications and community-based ownership.
Online games created on Web3 allow users to create and own game assets, such as NFTs (cryptographic files representing proof of ownership of a character or avatar), skins and weapons.
Ancient8 announced the partnership on its blog, “Shrapnel will be deployed on a custom Avalanche subnet that offers zero latency, EVM support and in-game asset trading.
The game is based on the latest edition of the real-time 3D authoring tool for photorealistic visuals and immersive experiences Unreal Engine 5.
Shrapnel is inspired by the multiplayer first-person shooter “Escape from Tarkov” and the “Dark Zone” mode of Tom Clancy’s The Division, an online role-playing game published by Ubisoft. The game received rave reviews following the release of the first trailer.
“Players can not only use weapons and chain gear to customize their gameplay experience, but they can also use, create and mint cosmetic and vanity items in the game using Shrapnel’s UGC tools. In this way, Shrapnel offers a wide range of experiences for various types of players: gamers, creators and curators,” wrote Ancient8.
The partnership also comes on the heels of DappRadar’s latest blockchain gaming report, which showed how VCs continue to support web3 games with $534 million raised in October and November.
According to the report, blockchain games only saw a 12% decline in the number of daily unique active wallets during the FTX saga.
