Mark Zuckerberg announced that they will be launching an Avatar Store, which will allow users to buy digital clothing for the metaverse.
While they haven’t shared too much information about its dynamics yet, Meta has mentioned a few details that we can expect to be available at launch.
Buy virtual clothes for your 3D avatar in the Meta Store
Meta has a new proposal to give your avatar a distinctive touch in the Metaverse: dress them in designer clothes. And for this, next week they will launch a virtual store where you will be able to find virtual clothes from different brands and designers for your avatar:
We are launching our Avatars Store on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger so you can buy digital clothes to style your avatar. Digital products will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy
For example, Zuckerberg has mentioned that there will be clothing from Prada, Balenciaga and Thom Browne at the launch of the store, but more designers will be added in the future. Outfits you will be able to wear your avatars on Instagram, Facebook and Messenger, as it is compatible with all Meta services and platforms.
And of course, just as it happens in the real world, dressing up in designer clothes will cost money, even if it is a simple 3D avatar. On the other hand, a detail to keep in mind is that this new Meta initiative does not cancel the current dynamic, which allows you to get free clothes for 3D avatars.
They have not mentioned too many details about its dynamics or the cost of the clothes, so we will have to wait until its launch to know more about Meta’s strategy. This virtual store will open next week only in some countries, such as Mexico, Canada, Thailand and the United States.
Meta presented its new VR Viewer prototype
Meta Platforms, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg, remains firmly committed to Virtual Reality experiences, even though rival technology companies have long since thrown in the towel in favor of Augmented Reality.
The ambitions of the company led by Zuckerberg are focused on offering an immersive Virtual Reality experience that is indistinguishable from the physical reality offered through a viewer that is completely easy to wear, no heavy and cumbersome visors.
In this regard, from its division in charge of developing VR/AR experience, the company has just presented today Holocake 2, the new prototype virtual reality viewer that is based on the original prototype viewer with holographic lenses, launched in 2020, but offering a slimmer look and which, according to Zuckerberg himself, is a fully functional prototype that allows you to play any virtual reality game while connected to a PC.
According to Zuckerberg, as he indicated at a press conference:
Displays that match the full capacity of human vision will unlock some really important things.
The first is a realistic sense of presence, and that’s the feeling of being with someone or somewhere as if you were physically there. And given our focus on helping people connect, you can see why this is so important.
In this regard, the executive tested the new prototype by making use of photorealistic avatars in a mixed reality environment where the virtual companion offered the feeling of actually being in the same place, practically next to you, hinting at the face-to-face possibilities with family and friends that the device can come to offer, even though they are physically in different places.
Zuckerberg has also emphasized the achievements made in Reality Labs, showing a variety of prototypes of virtual reality viewers made by this division of the company, although he recognizes that it is still far from being in front of what he considers to be the perfect virtual reality viewer.
In this regard, it should be noted that it must meet a 20/20 VR viewing experience with high resolution, have variable focal length and eye tracking, without distortions caused by the lenses, in addition to offering HDR images for a higher level of detail, all included in a simple and lightweight device.
